Comparision of knotted wire and crimped wire brush

Main Difference

Knotted wire Crimped wire
Appearance Several steel wire twisted together Wavy and loose steel wire
Performance Aggressive Flexible
Scene Heavy rust removing/ Heavy duty Small pieces/ More gentle

So in one word the main difference between the knotted wire and the crimped wire steel brushes, like end brushes, cup brushes and wheel brushes, is the power. The knotted wire usually has a stronger perfomance.

Application Scenes

  • Rust removing for boats: For boat rusts, bucause of the sea erosion, the rust is in a very big scale and usually hard and maybe multiple layers. So for this purpose we will suggest using a knotted wire cup brush or wheel brush. On the other hand, if you still have a smooth removing demand on some small corners you can use a crimped wire brush after the big work.

  • Rust removing and weld removing for big tubes: When we weld steel tubes together usually will leave a circle of weld scars outside which might affect the appearance and most importantly this area will concentrate many bad affections like stress power and easy corrosion elements. For this purpose we will recommend using the knotted wire wheels, which has the power to do the work more efficiently.

  • Rust removing and polishing for automotive steel parts: When it comes to these small metal parts and usually we dont have a very deep rust, we will recommend using the crimped wire. The flexible crimped wire can do the work more smoothly and wont hurt the part itself easily.

Usage Recommendations - RPM Limits

Knotted wire 8000-12500 RPM The centrifugal force generated by high rotation speed is required to keep the knotted wire bundle rigid and exert maximum cutting force.
Crimped wire 4000-9000 RPM The rotation speed should not be too high, otherwise the corrugated wire will break due to excessive stretching and may overheat.

In our factory testing, many customers complained about the short lifespan of their brushes. In fact, 80% of the time, the reason was that the speed and pressure were too high, causing the steel wire to break at the root.
