Optimizing Industrial Deburring: SiC vs. AO vs. Steel Wire Disc Brushes for Surface Finishing

10 Mar 2026 0 Comments

Today let's talk about one of the star product in the deburring tools - Disc Brush. The Disc Brushes are commonly used in the metal part manufacturing industries focusing on the deburring and surface finishing for the flat surface or the edge of a big scale of a metal part. In this article we will discuss about what is the resin injection type and why we choose them and also the filament selection.

The Evolution of Surface Finishing

Long time ago in order to do the deburring work on a big surface, people invented the type of disc brush with a strip brush circled and welded onto a steel plate and add a shaft. But the strip brush do not have a thick base so during the high speed rotating the bristle will spread wildly and cannot do the work so usually will use strong glue and fiber strings to apply at the bottom of the bristle. But this way usually makes the brush heavy and more manual work an also hard to garantee the quality stability.

So now we are using a mold to do the resin injection type to make the bristle and the shaft also "glued" together. Makes less weight and much higher production efficiency, whcih also makes the production cost much less.

Main application scene: Big flat surface deburring; Uneven surface treatment; Edge

Understanding Filament Materials

  • Silicon Carbide (SiC)

Characteristics: Extremely high hardness with a sharp cutting edge

Applications: Ferrous metals, cast iron, hardened steel, and heavy-duty deburring requiring strong cutting power.

  • Aluminum Oxide (AO)

Characteristics: Better toughness than silicon carbide, gentler cutting force, less likely to contaminate the workpiece surface.

Applications: Aluminum alloys, copper, and other non-ferrous metals, as well as fine polishing requiring extremely high surface roughness.

AO Resin Injection Disc Brush
  • Stainless Steel Wire

Characteristics: Corrosion resistant, no secondary pollution (will not leave rust on the workpiece surface).

Applications: Food-grade equipment, medical devices, cleaning of stainless steel welded parts.

  • Copper Plated Steel Wire

Characteristics: High tensile strength, economical and efficient.

Applications: Rust removal from carbon steel, rough surface cleaning, heavy machinery parts.

Industry Applications & Typical Workpieces

Material Relevant Industries Typical Workpieces
SiC Automotive manufacturing;Hydraulic components Engine block/cylinder head plane, hydraulic valve body end face, gearbox housing
AO Electronic;Aerospace Heat sink, aluminum alloy phone frame/back plate, precision structural components
Stainless Medical;Food Surgical instrument housings, stainless steel flanges, and the inner edge of pharmaceutical equipment cavities
Copper plated Heavy machinary;Ships Gearbox housing, mold line cleaning of castings, large connecting plates

Other Tips

When using the disc brush, we will recommend applying in a CNC machin or a similiar machining center in order to make the brush tool more stable during the work.

On the other hand the rotating speed cannot be too high. Usually the the RPM will recommend not higher than 4500. We will discuss more about the using parameters in our next blog. See you next time~
